Simple habits can have great impact on your life. Some habits can change your life for good and point you towards getting the success you want in life and business. The mini habits below, originally shared on Quora can significantly improve your life.
1. “Eat the frog”. Write down the one task that you must absolutely perform in order for the day to be a success, and do it first when you get to work.
2. Send one text/email to an old friend or colleague that you haven’t spoken with in a while. You could even call if you can. Over one year, that adds up to 365 reignited relationships (or 61 relationships reignited six times apiece).
3. End the day with less emails in your inbox than you started with. Repeat until you get to inbox zero.
4. Share your knowledge via a personal blog to improve you writing skills. Or answer one question on Quora every week if you can. Work on your writing ability while contributing to the organization of the world’s knowledge.
6. Eat at least one fruit or vegetable each day. Sure, you should probably eat a half-dozen servings of each. But things can get really screwed up when you are eating zero fruits and veggies. Start small and be consistent.
7. Express gratitude. My days go so much smoother when I remind myself: “dude, you could just as easily have been born in a Sudanese refugee camp. You’re one lucky mo-fo.”
8. Read something not related to your industry. Spend at least 20 minutes reading something that is completely unrelated to your career (or “personal development”). Creative thinking requires varied inputs. If you have monofocus (e.g. only read about startups all day), you’re severely limiting the amount of interesting ideas you can come up with.
9. Get uncomfortable at least 1x per day (ideally 3x or 5x). By “get uncomfortable” I mean “summon the courage to do something that makes you anxious”. Speak up during the work conference call. Say hi to the pretty girl or fella standing next to you in line. Run 4 miles instead of 3. Et cetera. Go the extra mile. Remember: “Everything you’ve ever wanted is on the other side of fear.” – George Addair
10. Finding yourself opening facebook or whatsapp again and again? Put away your laptop and phone and go on a short walk wherever you can. Walking is known to help collect your thoughts and relaxing you.
11. Before your sit to work, remind yourself of the ONE thing you need to get done today. There are high chances you will get more important things done this way.
12. Try to do at least one new thing – be it taking a different route to work, talking to a new person, experimenting an activity you haven’t before. Don’t let your curiosity and awe die in the daily grind.
13. Listen to some motivational podcast – If you don’t find time to sit and read a book, you can always listen to podcast like how you listen to music while doing any other work. This will bring lot of change to your thoughts. Yes! You can find lots of podcasts that plays less than 5 min in Google.
14. Plan your tomorrow, today– This is no new knowledge. Almost all the productivity content you would read on the internet talks about planning your day ahead. Managing time is an art and only a few people know how to do it. And, a majority of those who do it exercise a better control on their lives. You feel empowered and confident when you know in advance what to do today?
15. Read while commuting. Instead of listening to random public talks, read books or articles while commuting. You could even listen to your favourite podcasts. It will add to your vocabulary and increase the knowledge for your life.
16. Become enthusiastic. Most people drift thought life with their shoulders hunched, a frown on their faces and wrinkles on their forehead. They are skeptical about everything, about a new job, about a new responsibility, about something new that their spouse tells them. Not just enthusiastic about going on vacation, or taking some time off from work… but about everything in life.
17. Write thank you notes/emails – When someone helps you, don’t forget to write thank you notes. You will end up in growing your friendship/professional network in a good and positive way. Yes! It wouldn’t take more than 5 min.
