[Founder Spotlight] Ade Olonoh- CEO and Co-founder of Formspring

Ade Olonoh is the co-Founder and CEO of Formspring, a rapidly growing social network designed to help people get to know each other better. Formspring helps people find out more about each other by sharing interesting & personal responses. It starts by directly asking people original questions in anticipation of their entertaining or revealing responses. Formspring now has more than 25 million registered users. Over 700 million questions have been posted on Formspring.

  • Ade Olonoh is an entrepreneur at heart and a computer science engineer by training.
  • Ade’s father was Nigerian and his mother American. He was born in the US, spent most of his childhood in Nigeria, then moved to Indianapolis when he was 11.
  • Ade Olonoh holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Anderson University
  • He lived in and around Indianapolis until moving out to the SF Bay Area where he currently stays.
  • Ade was the Founder and CEO of Formstack from February 2006 to February 2010.
  • Ade founded Formspring in November 2009 in Indianapolis, and moved the company to San Francisco in June 2010.
  • “Back in the Summer of 2009, we noticed that bloggers were beginning to use Formstack’s forms to let their readers ask them questions. Pretty soon, tens of thousands of people were using our forms to share information, insights and learn about one another.”
  • “We took note and realized that people were desperate for a new way to connect and learn about each other. With this in mind, we launched Formspring.me in November 2009.”
  • Olonoh says the service “started out as a side project hacked together over a few weeks” at his previous company, which provided forms and other online for small businesses.

Formspring received $11.5 million funding round led by Redpoint Ventures (Geoff Yang) with participation from Baseline Ventures (Steve Anderson) in January 2011.
